Resting on the edge of Lake Atitlan, The Hermitage is on the outskirts of San Pablo la Laguna, a small Mayan village of 8,000 people with very few tourists or foreign businesses.

We strive to support the local Mayan people by employing a team of hard working men from the village and supporting their families with health care, nutrition and education.

The workers at The Hermitage meditate regularly before beginning their day, and we are working to develop more social and artistic out reach programs within the village itself. Practitioners who retreat at The Hermitage are directly helping to support the people of San Pablo, as a percentage of our profits go directly back to employing more people and aiding the families that we are working with.

The Hermitage also sponsers a child in the village, ten year old Jennifer (pictured below), offering support for all of her education and health care until she is twenty years old.

Our newest project is to build the first childrenĀ“s playground in San Pablo, which we hope to have completed by the end of 2017. Currently there is no place for young children to meet and play or use their imagination, and very young children in the town are often on the street, which can be dangerous.

We also donate gifts to many of the children in town at christmas, with the help of donations of toys or money from around the world. Last year (2016) The Hermitage donated more than two hundred christmas gifts.

If you would like to find out more about how to support San Pablo or if you would like to make a donation, send us an email, or let us know when booking for your next retreat.
